Brief Biography:

Dr. Katherine Kranz is a licensed clinical social worker and earned her PhD in social work from Boston College and her MSW from Rhode Island College. Dr. Kranz has taught at Providence College since 2007 and serves as the Chair of the Social Work Department. She served as the Interim Dean for the School of Education and Social Work in 2020-2021, as well as the Associate Dean for 3 years.
She has published articles focusing on the development and use of a substance abuse treatment self-efficacy scale (SATSES) which is requested for use in studies nationally and internationally. Dr. Kranz’s current scholarship is based on narrative story-telling and qualitative research about adoption, addiction, mental health, and sibling relationships. She mentors and engages in research projects presenting yearly with social work students. She has 43 years of practice experience with adolescents, adults, and families with addiction and mental health problems. She has been honored as Social Worker of the Year from the NASW-RI Chapter for her work in addictions (1989) and in Mental Health (2018).
